About the project
The Walker Street Enhancement Project will improve the corridor between NW 23rd Street and NW 32nd Street, strengthening the connection between the Paseo Arts District and Uptown 23rd while making the street safer and more comfortable for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
The project is funded through $5 million from the Better Streets, Safer City Sales Tax Program, a voter-approved extension of the MAPS 3 penny sales tax that generated $264 million for roadway resurfacing, street enhancements, sidewalks, trails and bicycle infrastructure across Oklahoma City.
Walker Street currently serves as a mix of a neighborhood collector street and a commercial corridor. The project will create a stronger pedestrian spine connecting nearby districts and neighborhoods while maintaining access for residents and businesses.
Improvements will include new sidewalks, updated street lighting, landscaping, roadway resurfacing and select on-street parking improvements.
Planned improvements along Walker Street include:
- New sidewalks on both sides of the street
- ADA-compliant ramps and marked crosswalks at intersections
- Roadway resurfacing
- 22 new streetlights meeting OG&E standards
- New trees and landscaping
- Rain gardens for stormwater management
- Potential speed cushions for traffic calming
- Improved on-street parking in select commercial blocks
Commercial-focused blocks include:
- NW 23rd to NW 24th
- NW 27th to NW 28th
- NW 29th to NW 30th
- NW 30th to NW 31st
