Project details
A waterline replacement project is underway along Melrose Lane between MacArthur Boulevard and west of Rockwell Avenue.
The project will replace approximately 7,900 feet of 42-inch diameter steel water transmission main. McKee Utility Contractors is the contractor for the project.
Construction began Dec. 23, 2024, and is scheduled for completion in late March 2026, weather permitting.
As of mid-May 2025, work in front of the Briarwood neighborhood is expected to begin in August, depending on construction progress.
What you need to know
Crews working on the Melrose Lane waterline replacement project will need access to an existing utility easement located inside the fence line on the north side of Melrose Lane.
As a result, the contractor, McKee Utility Contractors, will temporarily remove sections of residential fencing in the Briarwood neighborhood. Temporary fencing with privacy screening will be installed while crews clear the area and prepare for excavation and pipe installation. Affected homeowners have been notified.
Trees located within the utility easement have either been removed or marked with an "X" for removal.
The contractor will maintain the grass in the construction area until site restoration is complete. In accordance with Oklahoma City Municipal Code, grass height must not exceed 12 inches for public health reasons.
Street closures and traffic
Portions of Melrose Avenue will close to traffic beginning in August 2025 for construction on a new waterline.
The closures are necessary due to the size and location of the waterline. Contractors will post detour and traffic signage and notify nearby residents and businesses in advance to help them navigate around construction zones.
Melrose Avenue at Chisolm Road is scheduled to close when work begins in front of the Briarwood neighborhood. Crews will also close Melrose Avenue between Cherry Place and Peniel Avenue during work in that area.
The contractor is required to follow erosion control measures and best management practices throughout the project. Once construction is complete, streets, fences and grass will be restored to their original condition, and fencing will be returned to its original location.
