EV Truck at a charging station

The City is currently using grant funding from the US Dept. of Energy to study opportunities to reduce pollution and lifecycle costs within its’ own fleet and to identify great sites for public EV charging stations.

Where does OKC need public charging stations for electric vehicles? A strategic plan will be developed to guide future investments in cost-effective vehicles and fueling/charging sites. This plan will include priority locations for EV charging infrastructure. This survey helps OKC plan where future alternative fuel and EV infrastructure should be located to best serve residents, businesses, and City operations.

Please help us identify locations where EV charging stations would get a lot of use, have something for drivers to do while charging, and wouldn’t be susceptible to vandalism.

The best public EV charging sites have the following characteristics:

  • high visibility
  • high traffic volumes
  • easy access
  • close to places to spend time while charging like restaurants, restrooms, parks, or shopping
  • safety and security, e.g. good lighting, ideally surveillance cameras

Another requirement, especially for DC Fast Charging, is adequate power supply or ease of access to electrical infrastructure. The City will work with electric providers to assess power supply/access at priority sites identified through this page and the strategic planning process.
